Michael Slaven Partner

Michael Slaven Partner

Prior to establishing Slaven Torline in April 2019, Michael was a partner with Ernst & Young (EY) and has more than 30 years of insolvency and restructuring experience.

In addition, he is regularly engaged as an expert witness – to assist in resolving director/shareholder disputes, as a court-appointed receiver and in connection with family law proceedings.

Michael has achieved successful outcomes for a great number of corporate stakeholders. He has also assisted many people to avoid bankruptcy, utilising a personal insolvency agreement or Part X arrangement.

He has developed an in-depth knowledge of bankruptcy legislation and practice through more than 600 appointments as a trustee in bankruptcy. Michael has achieved many successful outcomes for creditors:

  • in the identification and recovery of undisclosed property
  • having antecedent transactions set aside
  • recoveries of after-acquired property
  • repatriation of property from foreign jurisdictions
  • intervention in family court proceedings.

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regularly asks Michael to act as liquidator in relation to company winding up applications. He is also asked by ASX-listed and other agencies to act as trustee in bankruptcy matters.

He is of the firm belief that confronting insolvency sooner rather than later leads to better outcomes. Seeking professional advice not only reduces the stress associated with the situation but also maximises your options.
